Architectural certification at Pilkington Metal Finishing
Fluoropolymer powder coatings that meet the strict specifications of the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) for aluminum exterior parts are now available in the US. This article discusses this advancement and how a Utah powder coater achieved success in the architectural market through a certification process.
Powder coatings have been used for architectural applications in many parts of the world. For example, Figure 1 shows a powder coating architectural project on Charlotte Street in Brisbane, Australia. Advances in architectural applications in the powder coating industry are being made rapidly. In the US, however, one of the biggest drawbacks to using powder on exterior architectural applications was the performance level for aluminum exterior parts as required by AAMA.
