This plastic substrate can take the heat of powder-coat curing and doesn't need a primer

Powder coating formulators and suppliers are continually searching for ways to make the finish more versatile so that it can be used on more and more substrates, such as wood and plastic. Now, a company has developed engineering thermoplastic blends with inherent surface conductivity for powder coating applications that are suitable at normal powder coating cure temperatures. The company's plastic resin doesn't need a primer, which can lower application costs considerably. This article discusses a testing program used to validate powder coating over the plastic and provides test results and property profiles. The article includes information about the use of the plastic for electrostatic paint and powder coating systems in the European automotive market and gives examples of other potential uses for the resins.

Ahigh-heat-resistant PA6/6 [polyamide] nylon and PPE [polyphenylene ether] thermoplastic blend from GE Plastics is commercially called NORYL GTX[r] resin1. It comes in grades with surface conductivity properties that make them a suitable substrate for powder coating and other coating applications.
