Fluidized-bed system provides quick-and-easy stripping of wire goods
When Dan Detters, production manager of finishing at Collis Inc.'s Evansville, Ind., plant, went shopping for a stripping system, he knew what he wanted: A system that could quickly strip powder coatings from the plant's steel racks and appliance parts without giving him any waste disposal or air-quality headaches.
"In my nine years at Collis I've learned about the advantages and disadvantages of the different stripping systems," Detters said. "Burn-off ovens are effective but they can take up to six hours. They also leave a lot of ash." Chemical or hot-salt strippers were another option, he said, but they leave behind a sludge which is costly to dispose of.
