Thick coating of ECTFE fluoropolymer stops corrosion
Scientists at the University of Virginia solved their corrosion problem - once their equipment was coated with 40 mils of HALAR ECTFE.
The University of Virginia, Charlottesville, operates a research facility where scientists and engineers study scramjet engines. [Scramjet stands for super-sonic combustion ram jet] . Intended to fly at many times the speed of sound, scramjet-propelled flight vehicles are the stuff of Star Wars - they don't exist yet. What did exist for 3 years, however, were coating problems - and they were serious and seemingly unsolvable.
