Powder coating medium-density fiberboard: A new approach to success
This article presents a new approach on how to powder coat medium-density fiberboard [MDF] successfully. Most important is the right combination of powder, MDF, coating line, and product specifications. The article discusses each of these four factors in detail and how they influence each other. It includes information from studies showing that MDF powder coating can be done very successfully when the powder reactivity matches the melting and curing conditions within the powder coating line and vice versa.
Powder coating of medium-density fiberboard [MDF] and other wooden materials has attracted more and more attention in the woodworking industry over the past few years. Interestingly, the industry appears to want to change from the traditional MDF coating systems, such as vinyl foil or wet lacquer, to powder coatings.
