Company turns to powder to cure coating ills
A conversion from low- to high-solids wasn't the antidote a medical equipment and sign maker needed to fix its ailing liquid paint system. A powder coating line, though, was just the prescription to boost production, restore efficiency, and shrink costs.
The move from liquid to powder was no snap, according to Charlie Wegman, systems engineer at Modern Metal Products, Greensboro, N.C. It took lots of phone calls, tests, visits with end users, and meetings, meetings, meetings. But the results - a superior finish in less than two thirds the time - are worth it.
