Heigh-ho silver, away! Color tops auto trends survey
When it comes to popular colors for vehicles, the third time is a charm for silver. For the third year in a row, North American customers have taken a shine to silver as their choice for cars and trucks, and their Asian and European counterparts are in agreement, according to the 50th anniversary edition of the DuPont Automotive Color Popularity Report, published by DuPont Performance Coatings, Troy, Mich.
Silver reached a new 3-year peak in popularity throughout the world in 2002, driven by consumers' correlation of the color with high-tech equipment, precision, and performance, according to the study, which has tracked color choices and predicted color trends for more than 5 decades. Silver's popularity today is almost twice as high as it was in the late 1970's, when it last dominated the color rankings trends. DuPont predicts the color will remain strong for the next couple of years as new warmer gold or cooler blue hues give it more visual interest.
