Gas-fired infrared-convection oven sets lighting company's powder line poles apart from previous operation
Not content to take its production limitations lightly, a Michigan company replaces its electric infrared oven with a combination gas-fired IR-convection system that speeds up the powder coating line, increases operating efficiency, and reduces maintenance downtime and expenses.
United Lighting Standards makes steel and aluminum lighting poles and related products at its 57,000-square-foor plant in Warren, Mich. The company, founded in 1971 as a Wolmac Engineering, originally hand sprayed its products with a primer and then applied an acrylic enamel finish. Each coat took form 2 to 4 hours to dry, depending on the weather. Production was about 30 poles daily.
