Powder steers company toward air quality goal
Concern over hazardous air emissions drives a metal office furniture maker from e-coat to powder. The course has its ups and downs: Production is up; emissions and energy use are down.
The 500 employees at Integrated Metal Technology [IMT] are breathing a little easier since the company installed an $800,000 powder coating line at their plant last December. Hazardous air emissions dropped 16 tons after IMT’s e-coat system was scrapped for the powder line. And energy use fell a whopping 40 percent.
