Coater improves finish and process with powder and a-coat combo

To meet a customer's demand, a finisher installs an autodeposition line that proves to be a durable combination with a polyester powder topcoat.

Founded as a job shop in 1986, Valley Coating Services, a division of Valley Design Enterprises, has grown as a powder coater and a manufacturer of table bases and office systems. Its Fountain, Minn., plant has a batch system and three monorail conveyor lines: One includes a five-stage iron phosphate washer; the other includes a seven-stage iron phosphate washer. The larger line was built to serve the automotive aftermarket and accounts for a large portion of the company's custom coating capabilities. The third line scheduled to begin production in September features a gas-fired infrared [IR] oven. The line provides specific advantages for powder coating Valley's tubular proprietary table-base product and allows for powder application to medium-density fiberboard [MDF] on a production-line scale.
