In most finishing operations, conveying systems are run in excess of their design speed.
The intended result of speeding up the conveyor is to increase production rates. As the following examples show, however, the unintended result is often a reduction in process times and an increase in process costs in terms of energy, chemicals, equipment, floor space, labor, and maintenance:
