Full-body powder primer surfacer lands the Chrysler Cirrus on cloud nine
With a weather eye on VOC compliance and a desire to improve coating performance, Chrysler inaugurates powder primer surfacer on a sports sedan.
What began in 1988 as an experiment to powder coat select areas of Chrysler's pickup trucks has evolved into a production technology to powder coat entire car bodies. The cars - the Chrysler Cirrus and Dodge Stratus-are the latest models in the company's JA series of sports sedans. They are the first in this vehicle to category to carry a full-body powder primer surfacer. Both models are built at Chrysler's Sterling Heights, Mich., assembly plant, where a powder coating system was installed in 1994.
