Bonded-metallic technique advances special-effects powders
Metallic powder coatings are gaining in popularity. In the past, the most common way of creating a metallic powder was to dry blend or mix the metallic element with a base powder. But metallic bonding, a technology that allows the metallic portion of the powder to attach to the powder base, creates a more consistent and compatible coating than dry-blended versions.
This article explains the metallic-bonding process and outlines the advantages metallic-bonded powder coatings offer compared with their dry-blended counterparts. Special effects powder coatings, such as those used to create powder-metallic finishes, have been commercially produced for more than 20 years.
