Answers to questions about choosing—and using—touch-up paints

Every coater uses them for those little areas that were missed or perhaps coated but coated too lightly--touch-up paints. This article answers your questions about how to choose the right touch-up paint for the job, and how to use them once you have them in your shop.

Q. What are some challenges with trying to repair coated surfaces?

A. The challenges with any paint job, whether powder or liquid, occur when there are imperfections, scratches, nicks, and other damage from the painting process, assembly, and shipping. To handle these challenges, you can try sanding and recoating, although that incurs extra labor, time, and materials. In some cases, the finished parts get scrapped because the existing paint doesn’t work well to touch-up damaged areas. Another option is to use touch-up paint.
