Lion statues come roaring back into action following restoration
For residents of Portsmouth, N. H., last March came in like a lion - more specifically, four lion statues in front of the historic Rockingham House, downtown. The restoration of the statues, which date back to 1872, instilled civic pride, attracted the attention of area media, and proved a rewarding experience for Universal Powder Coat, a local job shop.
Scott Barker, owner and president of the shop, lives in the house, which is divided into condominiums and a restaurant. The structure, formerly a hotel, is on the National Register of Historic buildings.
