Powder line connects fabricator to its customers
Demand for a telecommunications equipment maker's made-to-order solutions begins to overload its outsourced coaters. To keep the high-speed connection with its customers, the company installs a powder coating line that can process all its products and then some.
Growing things comes naturally to Tom Hawks. A former Nebraska farmer, he turned his nurturing know-how to the telecommunications industry. From planting crops to fabricating telecommunications equipment seems to be quite a career leap, but the move proved seamless. In 1992, Hawks listened to a friend in the telecommunications industry bemoan the fact that he couldn't get metal shelving built to his liking. When Hawks was told the general specifications of the shelving, he said he could build it. His friend said if that was the case, he would buy it. Hawks made it and his friend became a customer, marking the beginning of Metal-Tech Partners.
