This two-part series is a guide for manufacturers and custom coaters on how to select a contractor to supply and install a powder coating system. Part I of the article covers qualifying bids from contractors. The second part will cover preparing specifications, evaluating bids, and awarding the contract. The article lists information the owner should provide the contractor and the contractor should provide the owner to get the most suitable powder coating system for the application.
Today’s finishing environment is one of rapid change in response to performance improvement, cost
reduction, and environmental concerns. Because of downsizing in the manufacturing sector, today’s manufacturing engineer is encouraged to develop a team approach to powder system construction. As a result, the system supplier will become an integral member of the powder coating system team, joining the engineer and the coating, chemical, and special equipment suppliers and consultants.
