Converting from liquid to powder: A production booster
Environmental regulations and technological advances in powder coatings are expected to result in increased use of powder finishes by original equipment manufacturers [OEMs] over the next decade, with conversions from liquid coatings driving much of the growth. The highlighted manufacturer's conversion originated from compliance concerns and ultimately boosted production efficiencies and product quality.
While liquid finishes contain solvents known as volatile organic compounds [VOCs], powder coatings contain no solvents, so essentially all of the coating is applied to the substrate. Little or no air pollution or hazardous waste is generated, and high-volume users of powder coatings can retrieve and reuse most of the overspray that doesn't adhere to the part.
