SPC series: What is SPC?
This is the first in a series of nine articles on statistical process control. The series is intended to introduce the concepts of SPC to powder coating employees.
The articles will discuss the uses of SPC and define various terms. They will also explain variation and its significance; introduce average, range, and attribute control charts; and define process capability and explain how to determine it. Each article will contain practice problems to give readers the chance to work with concepts as they are introduced. Arithmetic skills and the ability to use a simple calculator are all that are required to work the problems.
