Combining powder coating with JIT takes planning and compromise
At first glance, you might assume that powder coating and a just-in-time [JIT] manufacturing plan are not compatible. Primarily, this is because flexibility is at the core of JIT manufacturing.
And powder coating, with its time-consuming color change process, doesn't seem flexible enough to respond to the ever-changing production demands created by JIT manufacturing. Even so, many facilities are combining powder coating and JIT manufacturing effectively. The keys to success in this undertaking lie in keeping the JIT concept in mind when planning the powder system and in making compromises in production planning.
