Powder coating heat-sensitive substrates provides new opportunities

Can powder coatings only be applied to metal substrates, or is it also possible to powder coat non-metallic surfaces?

It is well established that powder coatings offer environmental and performance benefits over other coating systems. However, the common myth that powder coatings are limited to metal substrates is history. This is primarily due to outstanding progress in the technologies that found a number of applications for heat-sensitive substrates, such as wood products, plastic, and particularly medium density fiberboard (MDF). Recent advances show that furniture, shelving, and cabinetry components made from MDF exhibit superior properties. Plus, the unique combination of special MDF, precision of the operation, and a relatively low curing powder coating system are responsible for the commercial success of this process. Not to mention—the color choices are unlimited.
