Strategic planning helps custom coaters continuously improve and proactively handle changes.

A new year is upon us and like most business owners we are all looking for ways to produce more with less and improve our bottom line profits. As custom coaters, we have ties to the manufacturing industry that was once believed to be what made this country a world power. Our purpose as job shop custom coaters is to provide the value added service of metal finishing to products that are fabricated in or around our communities. Now more than ever, we all face new challenges as we strive to deal with increased government, new laws, new environmental regulations, tax reporting requirements, employee health care mandates, higher material and labor costs, and a host of other concerns that burden us economically. It’s true—business is not as fun as it used to be.

With the changing of the calendar, many business owners take the opportunity to look back on the previous year and reflect on the good, the bad, and the ugly sides of business past. We reflect on the recent past in hopes that we can make resolutions for the new year and map a plan for the short and long term future of our companies. There are some that sit idly by and let their businesses run in the same manner as they always have, and others that seize the opportunity to implement positive change in a pragmatic and systematic way. The proactive option is otherwise known as strategic planning. Strategic planning is a critical part of any business and it requires some serious thought about what is truly good for the company moving forward. Strategic planning helps address changes in the organization in a proactive way, and allows us to navigate the company in a positive direction by implementing continuous improvements. Some business will grow this year, some will shrink, and some will just go quietly away.
