Powder coil coating - a technology ready to roll

ARMCO's pilot powder coil line turns out powder-coated strip that meets tough appliance-industry specs. The question is, where will the new technology wind up - in use or on the shelf?

Five coil coating lines in Japan and Europe have been rolling out powder coated aluminum and hot-dipped galvanized steel since 1996 [see Table 1]. The US has yet to see the construction of one production-scale powder-coil facility. That may change soon, however, if ARMCO Inc. finds someone to build a commercial line based on its powder coil pilot line.
